The Unlikely Story of the Lesbians of First Friday – Director: Kathryn L Beranich. 63 Min.
In the 1980’s, a disparate group of lesbians living in the Bible Belt of Southwestern Virginia came together and created a community for like-minded women.
When First Friday pushed open the closet door, a vibrant community sprang out. The events they planned were varied, always fun, and provided a social life for hundreds of women who were living double lives.
This slice of lesbian history is told through the voices and anecdotes of the organizers and others who joined the fun.
Director Kathryn Beranich will be at the fest for a Q&A following the film. We will discuss how community is formed, how it is lost, and ways to recreate this in today’s world.
